I'm lucky that when it came to school, my mom wanted me to be myself, but my dad was a bit more academically demanding.
I also think that Nigeria can do better with its educational system to be honest. It's not our fault some of us need special attention.
Congratulations on your appraisal and do write a post on how to get that kind of appraisal with a side note on how to get better academically.
